Training

“FADRC” offers a one to two-hour mediation awareness seminar, basic mediation training, advanced mediation training and training seminars in ADR and ADR technique, as well as mentoring assistance in exporting the “FADRC” model to other areas. Several of the Council’s members have traveled across the country to train various groups in the use and advocacy of Alternative Dispute Resolution. “FADRC” also trains employees to become mediators. These pro bono services make ADR readily available and affordable to the local federal community. Training capabilities enable member Agencies to take advantage of “FADRC” as a non-traditional vendor and realize cost savings on mediation and conflict management training, thus, allowing Agencies to redistribute cost savings into more effective uses. The only requirement for requesting a pro bono mediator is a federal nexus within the dispute.

A person chosen by the participant agency to be the contact between the agency and the “FADRC” arranges mediation services. When the request for mediation has been accepted a designated “FADRC” member first considers the nature of the dispute and the characteristics of the disputants (e.g., rand and gender), and then selects two members of the council best suited for the mediation team. The “FADRC” uses the co-mediation model (two mediators working tandem on each case.) The disputants and mediators agree on a mutually acceptable site and time for the mediation to take place. When appropriate, an official of the disputants’ agency, identified during the intake process, who has authority to approve the terms of a resolution is present at the mediation.

Message from the President

"The Council has trained mediators across the nation and locally.  In addition we have exported our model for pro bono shared neutrals to other federal communities across the Southeast.  We offer several levels of affordable training opportunities -- from two-hour “awareness” seminars to complete 40-hour Basic Mediation training.  For trained mediators we often provide advanced skill-building and training opportunities.  Let us be your trainer of choice."
